In October, Fabiana Carpella was far from planning anything for the upcoming season. Her body showed her its limits and she was unable to train for weeks. But perhaps this break was exactly what helped her to regain her strength.
“I’m very happy with my season. I won the total score in the IBU Junior Cup and a medal at the Junior World Championships. At the start of the season, I was far from setting myself such goals.” That’s what Fabiana Carpella says after the end of the 2024/2025 season. She was the best junior of the season and won bronze in the individual at the IBU Junior World Championships in Oestersund. And she did so despite having to miss the first Junior Cup in Ridnaun in December.
In October, the 20-year-old fell ill with mononucleosis and had to take a break from training for a few weeks as a result. “At the time, I didn’t know whether I would be able to race at all in the winter and therefore had no expectations for the season.’ She competed in the Italian Cup in December and realised that her form was better than expected. ‘The first races gave me confidence. I realised that I could rely on my body after all.” In her first race in the IBU Junior Cup in Goms, she immediately finished second in the sprint.
Consistent performances throughout the season
After Christmas break, Fabiana Carpella then celebrated her first victory in an individual race of her career in the sprint in Jakuszyce. Having struggled with mistakes at the shooting range in previous competitions, she managed to stay clear. Further podium places followed in Altenberg and finally the bronze medal in Sweden. It was a particularly emotional moment for her: “I struggled with my shooting all season, so I didn’t expect to win a medal in the individual race at all.” Fabiana Carpella only realized that she was the best overall in the Junior Cup in the stadium in Oestersund. During the final lap, she saw that her name was at the top of the rankings. At the end of the season, she travelled on to the IBU Cup in Otepaa. For the coming season, she wants to be a permanent member of the Italian team in the IBU Cup.
A view through the camera
Fabiana Carpella is often out and about with her camera. She likes to use it to capture special moments or impressive landscapes. She then collects the photos in albums. In the future, Fabiana Carpella plans to add many more memories of her successes in biathlon races.
