The Korea Lacrosse Association (KLA) will host the 2025 World Lacrosse Men’s U20 Championship in conjunction with World Lacrosse.
This tournament, which will be the first held in Asia, is scheduled to take place from Aug. 15 (Friday) to 24 (Sunday) at the Gongcheonpo Training Center located in Seogwipo, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province.
Approximately 1,000 young lacrosse prospects from around 20 countries, including lacrosse powerhouses like the United States and Canada, are expected to participate in this tournament, showcasing high-level skills and fierce competition.
The world championship is the largest and most prestigious international lacrosse event held every four years.
By hosting the men’s U20 world championship, which brings together young players who will lead the future of world lacrosse, the Korea Lacrosse Association has further elevated its status on the international lacrosse stage. Additionally, by jointly hosting the Asia-Pacific U16 Lacrosse Championship and U14 Youth Festival, it has laid a significant turning point for promoting the growth potential of domestic lacrosse to the world.
The Korea Lacrosse Association noted, “We will do our best to ensure the successful hosting of this tournament, which will serve as a significant stepping stone for South Korea to leap forward as a central country in Asia in the growing lacrosse market, especially with the adoption of lacrosse as an Olympic sport at the 2028 LA Olympics.”
Lacrosse is a ball sport that developed from healing and unity rituals of North American Indians into modern sports. It is played by scoring goals through passes using sticks and has grown primarily in high schools and universities in the eastern United States. In South Korea, youth, high school, college, and general teams participate in the domestic league, with high school teams distributed across various regions such as Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi, Chungnam, Gangwon, and Jeju. Interest in lacrosse is gradually increasing in the country, particularly following its confirmation as an Olympic sport for the 2028 LA Olympics.
